The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals.
